National Honey Show 19th-21st October 2006

The exciting new National Honey Show venue at the Royal Air Force
Museum, Grahame Park Way, Hendon, London NW9 5LL.
My most vivid memory of last year’s Show – the first at our new
venue, the RAF Museum, Hendon – is of the late afternoon sun shining
through the windows along the length of the Halton Gallery, through the
jars of “runny honey” classes staged in the centre aisle, and
lighting them up with a wonderful warm glow.

By far the vast majority of visitors were happy with the venue,
particularly the free parking facilities, the exhibition and sales
areas, and the enthusiasm of some older visitors for the display of
(amongst others) World War II aircraft was a delight to see.

There was also much praise for the Lecture Theatre and the excellent
programme of lectures.
Yes, there were some aspects of the Show that need improvement,
notably the lack of direction signs and the level of lighting in the
Gallery, as it becomes dark. These and other matters, which we know we
can improve, will have our attention.
We had an increase in excess of 20%, both in the number of exhibitors
and exhibits, and, in some classes, the number of exhibits was at levels
not seen for some years. Thank you all.
What was also noticeable was the return of a small number of coach
parties – this certainly is an easy way to reach the Show with its
excellent road connections. Hopefully, more County BKAs and branches
will use this method of travel this year.
And so, what of this year’s Show? In a nutshell, more of the same,
only better – hopefully also with less rain!! I must have a word with
the Clerk of the Weather!! Are those mellow October days I think I
remember just a figment of my imagination? I don’t think so.
So, complete and send in your entry form in good time, and look
forward to the Show with another excellent lecture programme – all
listed in the schedule.
I look forward to seeing you at Hendon in October after, hopefully, a
good harvest. David Smart Chairman
